Description
Ferryman's Cottage is an early 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay house with a single-storey wing that creates a courtyard at the rear. The building is constructed from roughly coursed squared rubble, with some areas featuring snecking.
The northwest elevation, which is the principal facade, is symmetrical. It has a small gabled timber porch at the center, with a window in the middle bay at ground level, flanked by windows in the outer bays. The first floor has regular fenestration close to the eaves.
On the northeast elevation, which faces the river, there is a gabled bay to the right with two windows on each floor. The single-storey wing to the left has a glazed door on the left side, a window beyond it, and two further windows to the right.
The southwest elevation, which faces Port-Na-Craig Road, features a piend-roof design with two windows on each floor and a prominent wallhead stack in the center.
The southeast elevation is largely blank and consists of a single storey with blocked arrowslit-type openings, which may have served as air vents, on the outer southeast face.
The courtyard elevations are asymmetrical and include a variety of elements, such as lean-to bays on the northwest and southeast sides.
The windows are timber sash and case, featuring a glazing pattern of 4-, 8-, and 2-pane designs over plate glass lower sashes. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with some chimney cans.
The property is enclosed by semicircular-coped rubble boundary walls.
