Description
Glen Artney Church, located on the Drummond Estate, was built around 1905. This rectangular aisleless church features a gabled porch and an altered battered fleche. The exterior is constructed from squared and snecked rubble with some Aberdeen bond, complemented by ashlar dressings. The church has pointed-arch openings, with some windows showcasing trefoil-headed tracery, voussoirs, raked cills, and stone mullions.
On the north elevation, there is an advanced gabled porch with a half-timbered gablehead on the right side. Steps with flanking dwarf walls lead up to a deeply moulded doorway, which contains a two-leaf panelled timber door. To the right of the porch, there is a trefoil-headed window. The left side features a similarly detailed gabled bay with a double lancet window.
The south elevation has two trefoil-headed windows on the left and a double lancet that breaks the eaves into a swept gablehead on the right. The gable elevation includes a three-light window set within a pointed-arch frame, while the west elevation has a gabled design with two tall lancet windows. The church features a multi-pane leaded glazing pattern with coloured margins, although this was boarded up for winter in 2002. The roof is covered with grey slates, has a swept design with overhanging eaves, and plain bargeboarding.
Inside, the church boasts a good decorative scheme, including a hammerbeam roof, fixed timber pews, and boarded dadoes. The panelled chancel features a carved pulpit and a low fretwork screen.
