Description
Invergowrie Primary School, attributed to James Findlay and dated 1913, features an earlier 20th century addition to the north. This single-storey, U-shaped school is constructed with bull-faced snecked rubble and has ashlar dressings, topped with a grey slate roof. The building has a high base course and variously grouped 6-pane top-hopper windows, along with tripartite and transomed 10-pane top-hopper windows on the south gables. The gables also showcase large panelled wallhead kneelers and coped skews, while the steeply pitched, piended bell-cast roof is adorned with modillioned eaves and coped stacks featuring uniform cream cans. The cast-iron rainwater goods include a decorative dated hopper on the south elevation, and there are coped ridge stacks. The northern addition is rendered as bull-faced snecked rubble, lined to appear as ashlar at the rear, and has a piended slate roof with variously grouped 6-pane top-hopper windows.
On the east elevation, the entrance porch is slightly advanced to the centre left and features a checked doorcase with the word "boys" inscribed at the lintel, along with a corniced parapet. There are two bipartite windows to the left and a bipartite window to the right, flanked by single windows. A recessed bay to the far right contains a 4-light window in a corniced outshot bay, with a single window recessed to the right.
The south elevation has slightly advanced paired gables at the centre, with a 4-light window to the left and a 5-light window to the right, along with slightly advanced gables at the far left and right.
On the west elevation, the original wall to the right is blank, while a tripartite window breaks through the eaves to the left return, with later additions to the left.
The north elevation features two tripartite windows in a flat-roofed bay at the centre, along with two multi-pane flat-roofed dormers on the main roof. The wings are advanced to the left and right in two stages, with various doors and windows.
Inside, the school includes a First World War memorial and a classical pedimented board for Dux medallists in the hall.
The property is enclosed by a low boundary wall to the east, topped with cast-iron railings.
