Description

Longforgan Primary School, built in 1908 by James Findlay, is a single-storey school with a mostly rectangular plan, likely incorporating parts of an earlier building at the rear. The exterior features bull-faced snecked rubble on the south, east, and west sides, with stugged snecked rubble at the rear and ashlar dressings. The roofs are piended slate, sweeping at the eaves. The building has a high base course and includes multi-pane and plate glass casement and top-hopper windows, bracketted eaves, and gables with coped skews and kneelers at the base. Decorative cast-iron rainwater goods and coped ridge stacks with rounded angles are also present.

On the southeast elevation, there is a prominent 5-light, flat-roofed transom and mullion window breaking through the eaves at the center, flanked by 12-pane windows on either side. The gables at the outer left and right are slightly advanced and feature tripartite, transom and mullion, keystoned segmental-headed windows. The east and west gables are blank.

The northeast elevation has later additions that mostly match the original building's character, with various doors and windows, including a door marked as the "boys entrance" on the left return.

The interior has not been seen. Surrounding the school is a boundary wall made of round-coped rubble on the north, south, east, and west sides. There are two round-section, bull-faced snecked rubble gatepiers topped with rounded ogival caps, along with thistle motif iron gates. Additionally, there are two playsheds supported by cast-iron columns and covered with slate roofs.
