Description
Cecilmount Church, built between 1738 and 1739, is a roofless structure made of rubble, measuring approximately 77 feet by 25 feet. It features a birdcage bellcote on the west gable and a symmetrical south front with three doorways that have segment-headed fanlights. There are two pairs of large square-headed windows between the doorways and two small square windows above the center door, which is designated for the minister. The straight skews are stepped at half their height and include skewputts. A porch and an octagonal session house were added later, likely before 1779, at the center of the south side. The church originally had east and west galleries, but these were altered by William Stirling between 1820 and 1821, when a narrow north gallery was inserted, along with changes to the north gallery porch, stair, and north fenestration. A round-arched channel-jointed doorpiece was added to the east wall at a later date. The church was abandoned in 1859.
