70 Victoria Street And Quay, Stromness

70 Victoria Street and Quay in Stromness is a pair of asymmetrical houses built in the earlier to mid 19th century, with later alterations. The two-storey, four-bay rectangular-plan houses are located in the center of a row and are accessed via a segmental-arched pend from Victoria Street. The exterior is harled, and the first-floor windows are positioned close under the eaves.

On the south elevation, the bays are grouped in pairs. The left two-bay block, known as number 68, features a plain timber door with a circular painted glass inset in the ground floor bay to the right, along with a blocked fanlight and a window above on the first floor. There is a window at each floor in the left bay. The right two-bay group, number 70, has a plain timber door with a painted glass inset and narrow lights flanking it in the ground floor bay to the left, and a non-aligned window above on the first floor. There is also a window at each floor in the right bay.

Number 68 has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, while number 70 has 2-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with old Orkney grey slate, featuring a stone ridge and a tall harled coped ridge stack to the west of the group, along with a harled corniced ridge stack at the east end. The houses also have cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 1997. To the south, there is a rectangular-plan quay made of Caithness flagstones.
