3 Alfred Terrace, Stromness

4 Alfred Terrace in Stromness is a late 19th to early 20th century, two-storey, ten-bay terrace. It features a symmetrical three-bay cottage on the left (No 3), a near-symmetrical three-bay cottage in the center (No 4), and an asymmetrical four-bay cottage on the right (No 5). The exterior is harled with a base course, cement cills, and plain architraved doorways for Nos 3 and 4.

On the principal elevation, No 3 has a part-glazed boarded door in the center bay at ground level, with a window above on the first floor and windows in the flanking bays. No 4 features a part-glazed door in the center bay at ground level, with a window breaking the eaves above on the first floor. There is also a window breaking the eaves in the left bay and a ground-level window with a window breaking the eaves above in the right bay. No 5 has a modern timber door in the right of center bay at ground level, with non-aligned windows in each floor of the right bay and a first-floor window in the left bay, plus a small window at ground level in the outer left bay.

The north side elevation has a two-bay gabled wall with a window at ground level and a window on each floor in the right bay, along with a gablehead stack above. The west rear elevation is irregularly fenestrated.

The terrace predominantly features nine- and twelve-pane timber sash and case windows, with No 5 having two-pane windows with top-hung lights. The roofs are covered with modern slate, and the stacks are harled with coped tops and moulded cans, while uPVC rainwater goods are present.

The interior was not seen in 1997.
