5-7 Alfred Street, Stromness

5-7 Alfred Street in Stromness is a later 19th century, two-storey, four-bay house that forms part of a terrace. The building has a rectangular plan and is asymmetrical in design. The exterior features cement rendering that is lined and painted at the ground level, while the sides are finished with harl pointed rubble. A bracketed and corniced band course separates the ground and first floors, and there is an eaves course. The openings have cement-painted margins, and the corners are accentuated with strip quoins.

On the east (principal) elevation, there is a replaced timber door with a large rectangular fanlight located in the bay to the right of centre, with a window above it on the first floor. Each bay has a window at both the ground and first floors, with an additional window in the outer left bay at ground level.

The windows are predominantly 12-pane timber sash and case, although there are replaced timber casement windows at ground level. The roof features evenly spaced roof lights and is covered with old Orkney grey slate. The building has concrete skews, a stone ridge, and coped rubble gablehead stacks with moulded cans on the north and south sides, along with uPVC rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1997.
