Description
Kirkwall Harbour Light, built in 1854, is a 20-foot tall cast iron structure designed to guide ships into the harbour. It features a tapered circular column topped with a pentagonal lantern that is painted white. The light stands on a black square plinth with panelled sides. The base flares out and has a roll-moulded design, leading up to the main body, which is divided into three sections by ribbing. Each face of the lantern has a circular central light surrounded by three triangular panes above and below. The top of the lantern is capped with an ogee shape and includes a cylindrical ventilator and a flagstaff. Additionally, there is a small round window located in the lower section of the column.
