1 Dundas Street, Stromness

1 Dundas Street in Stromness is an earlier to mid 19th century, two-storey, single bay (three-bay at ground) house that features an asymmetrical crowstepped gable and is part of a terrace. The house has a chamfered northeast angle at the ground level and adjoins a single bay crowstepped-gabled house to the south. The ground floor is cement-rendered while the first floor is harled, with a band course separating the two levels.

On the east (principal) elevation, there is a deep-set, part-glazed timber panelled door with a three-light fanlight located in the bay to the left of centre. A large window is situated in the centre bay at ground level, with a corresponding window above it on the first floor. Another large window is found in the bay to the right at ground level.

The north (side) elevation features a crowstepped gabled wall with a window to the left on the first floor and another window in the attic above. There is a multi-flue gablehead stack. The ground floor has large former shop windows, while the first floor is fitted with 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with stone slates, has a stone ridge, coped crowsteps, and a corniced stack to the north, along with cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 1997.
