34 North End Road, Stromness

34 North End Road in Stromness is a mid to late 19th century end-of-terrace cottage with later alterations and additions. It is a single-storey building, with a basement at the rear, and features a symmetrical three-bay rectangular plan, situated on a slope that falls towards the east. The exterior is constructed of pointed coursed rubble with ashlar cills, and the windows are positioned close to the eaves.

On the west (principal) elevation, there is a timber door with a 2-pane letterbox fanlight located in the central bay, with a window in each of the flanking bays. The east (rear) elevation includes a central timber T-plan forestair, a timber oriel porch to the right at ground level above a basement window, and a window in the left bay above another basement window. There is also a boarded basement door to the right of centre.

The north (side) elevation consists of a single bay with a window at ground level on the right and a gablehead stack above. The cottage predominantly features small-pane timber-framed windows, with unevenly placed rooflights on the west pitch and a small rooflight on the east pitch. The roof is covered with grey slate, has a stone ridge, and includes a corniced rubble gablehead stack on the north side, a mutual stack on the south, concrete skews, and uPVC rainwater goods.
