Description
Queen Mother's Cottage in Auchtavan is a probably mid 19th century single storey and attic cottage. It features three bays and remains unaltered, with piended dormer windows and an outshot at the rear. The exterior is constructed of coursed squared rubble.
The south elevation, which serves as the entrance, is symmetrical. The center bay has a boarded timber door with a letterbox fanlight above it, flanked by windows in the outer bays. There are dormer windows above the outer bays alongside a traditional rooflight. The windows are timber sash and case with 4-pane and plate glass glazing patterns. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with clay cans, as well as ashlar-coped skews with block skewputts.
Inside, the cottage boasts a fine traditional interior with boarded timber walls. The east room features a timber fire surround, while the west room has a swey.
