Description

St Columba's Episcopal Church, designed by architects Ross and MacBeth, was built in 1876 and features a simple Early English Gothic style. The church has a four-bay nave, a two-bay chancel, and a projecting south porch at the west end. It is constructed from snecked stugged ashlar with polished dressings. The porch includes a recessed pointed-headed door with squat nook shafts that support a moulded arch and hood-mould. Above the porch gable are three cusped, louvred openings. The nave and choir are adorned with paired cusped windows, and there are three-light windows at the east end. The roof is made of slate.

Inside, the altar features a marble reredos that is raised centrally with a gable above a cusped niche. The octagonal pulpit, organ framing, and chancel dado panelling are all made of oak and include Gothic detailing, fitted in 1930. The oak altar rails were added in 1938. Most of the windows have painted and leaded glass panels, including a crucifixion scene in the east window, portraits of saints Michael and Margaret from 1898, and saints George and Andrew from 1902, along with other memorial panels.
