Moorburn, 24 Greenock Road, Largs

The Stable Block at Moorburn, located at 24 Greenock Road in Largs, dates back to 1876 and is designed in an asymmetrical Italianate style. It is a two-storey building with a square plan and features a lower two-storey, two-bay wing to the east. The exterior is constructed from snecked stugged ashlar with polished dressings.

The south elevation consists of three bays, with a central door that is accessed by steps and features a projecting porch supported by two square piers. Above the porch, there is a bold mutule cornice and a decorative cast-iron balustrade. The left bay has a projecting ground floor bipartite window within an advanced gable, while the first floor features a round-headed glazed balcony door above the porch. The right bay has an architraved window below a bracketed projecting bipartite, and the left bay contains a tripartite window on the first floor. The lights in the outer bays are divided by colonettes, which are round-headed and adorned with channelled voussoirs. The gable heads are decorative, and the eaves are deeply projecting.

The west elevation is almost identical to the south elevation but lacks the doorway and features a canted ground floor window in the right bay, with a relieving arch above the bipartite window. The building has sash windows, most of which have pilastered jambs. The south elevation of the two-bay wing to the east includes a pilastered and corniced doorcase with simplified window details. The building has end and axial stacks and is topped with slate roofs.

Inside, there is some panelling and decorative plasterwork, particularly in the entrance hall and stairway.
