Description
The Tide Gauge and Automatic Tide Signal, located in the Pilot House at Irvine Harbour, is a monitoring station built in 1906. This four-storey, square tower is constructed of rubble stone, rendered and lined to resemble ashlar, and features a wallhead cornice.
On the west elevation, which is the principal facade, there is a window on each floor that is offset to the left, with lamp openings and flat hoods at the center, and four cast-iron grilles to the right. The north elevation has a door at the ground floor, with windows on the first to third floors that are offset to the right. Similarly, the south elevation also features a door at the ground floor and windows on the first to third floors, again offset to the right. The east elevation includes a large window at the ground floor, with horizontal rectangular windows on the first to third floors.
The building has a roofless design, with a mast and rigging rising from the center of the tower. Additionally, there are cast-iron hoppers and downpipes at the ground floor on the east side. The windows vary, featuring 4, 6, and 18 panes.
