Description
The Whalebone Arch in Bragar, Lewis, is a large structure that serves as a gateway to a private house. It symbolizes the whaling industry that local men participated in, although this particular arch is made from a whale that washed ashore. The arch is mounted on a pair of substantial rubble-built piers and is braced at the top with a harpoon that is slung underneath.
