Description
The Parish Church in Tarbert, Harris, is believed to date from 1862, although it may include elements from a missionary church mentioned in 1839, which was granted by the late proprietor, A N MacLeod. This T-plan church is located close to the shore above Loch Tarbert and features a harled exterior with a slate roof and modern glazing.
The body of the church is deep in plan, with segmental-arched windows and a belfry situated over the west gable. The north side has flat-lintelled openings and the main entrance. A gabled vestry is centrally located on the south side, positioned behind the pulpit and close to the shore.
Inside, the church has a gallery in all three arms, with splayed links at the angles, supported by simplified timber Doric columns. There is a central mast-like roof support that is bell-shaped at the top.
