Description

The Cast-Iron Bridge in the Milltown of Rothiemay, designed by engineer John Willet and founded by James Abernethy of Aberdeen, dates back to 1872. This six-span bridge features ribbed cast-iron segmental arch rings for the central four spans, while the outer spans are supported by brick-lined arch rings. The bridge is anchored by bull-faced grey granite piers that have triangular cutwaters. At each end, there are contrasting pink granite balustrades with tooled granite copes, which connect metal balusters over each metal arch. The approximate spans are 25 feet for the outer spans and 40 feet for the central spans.
