Description

Braemoriston House, located on Braemoriston Road in Bishopmill, Elgin, was originally built in 1819 and later remodelled and enlarged by William Robertson in 1837. The house features a long, single-storey and attic central block at the north entrance, flanked by two-storey pavilions topped with shallow pyramidal roofs.

On the south elevation, there is a single-storey and basement block that includes a central bowed entrance window and bow windows at the gables, all beneath curved shallow piended roofs. The ground floor is finished in painted ashlar, while the remaining elevations are constructed of squared coursed rubble with ashlar dressings.

A central porch with a pediment is supported by outer piers and inner Ionic columns, connecting to columned and balustraded loggias at the outer bays. The ground floor features four projecting bays, each with recessed, architraved apron panelled windows. The south elevation has three bays with tall 12-pane sash and case windows, and the first bays of the return elevations are bowed. The roofs are shallow and piended, with modern dormers added to the south block, and there are symmetrically placed corniced stacks.

Additionally, there is an extended service wing against the south-facing vinery wall, where the glass house has been removed and a new window has been added, extending eastward to a two-storey terminal pavilion.
