Description
Park Cottage, located on Greenhill Street in Dingwall, is a two-storey, three-bay house designed by William Robertson between 1830 and 1840. The building has been converted for garage use and features a combination of rubble construction with tooled and polished ashlar dressings. The central bay is recessed and is highlighted by an Ionic distyle columned screen that connects the projecting outer bays and supports a first-floor balcony. The entrance is centrally located and has simple moulded surrounds.
The right outer bay retains its original ground floor window, which is adorned with a corniced and shallow pedimented lintel featuring anthemion acroteria, along with moulded and lugged surrounds and a plain apron. The building exhibits regular three-bay fenestration on the east and west gables, although the west side has been altered by the installation of showroom doors and later rendered blocking. A similar alteration is noted for the shop window in the left front bay. The first-floor windows typically have nine-pane glazing, except for the centre front window, which has twelve panes, while the ground floor windows also feature twelve panes. There are no surviving chimney stacks, and the roof is a shallow projecting piended slate design.
At the rear, a single-storey rubble service wing connects to the main elevation, with projections on both the right and left sides that create set-back wings, also topped with piended slate roofs. Inside, there is a central staircase that features a simple cast-iron balustrade.
