Description

The Commercial Bank on High Street in Dingwall was designed by W C Joass in 1906. This classical building features two storeys and an attic, with a total of four bays, plus additional single balustraded screen bays set back on each side. The ground floor is finished in channelled ashlar, which includes the screens, while the first floor and dressings are made of polished ashlar.

Each screen bay has a pedimented entrance that provides access to the rear of the bank, and the entrance to the banking hall is located in the right outer bay. The ground floor has three tall windows, all adorned with moulded and lugged architraves. A deep band course connects the screen bays with the bank's facade between the ground and first floors. There are four windows on the first floor, with margined glazing on the ground floor and two-pane glazing on the first floor.

The building features a deep eaves band, an eaves cornice, a wallhead balustrade, and two flat-headed dormers. It has hipped and corniced end stacks and a slate roof.
