Description
The Walled Garden at Ballindalloch Castle dates to around 1830 and replaced an earlier walled garden destroyed by floods in 1829. The garden is constructed of large, regularly laid rubble stone facing south, with a more random rubble construction to the north face. A low wall runs along the west side. The garden is topped with a coping of tooled granite. Entrances are positioned in the north and south walls, featuring checked jambs and remnants of iron hinges. Later ornamental iron gates have been added. A simple, double-gabled, single-storey rubble bothy is built against the north wall, with coped end stacks and a roof of Banffshire slate. The Gardens Cottage is not included as part of this listing. Details from J and W Watson's Morayshire Described (1868, page 50) provide additional context.
