Description
This is an 18th-century stable range and cartshed, situated on the site of the former Mains farm at Ballindalloch Castle. The building is a symmetrical, single-storey structure with a loft, facing west, and extending over nine bays. It is constructed of grey rubble stone with contrasting, tooled pink granite dressings. The central three bays are slightly advanced and topped with a pediment, featuring three round-headed cartsheds and loft windows above—one window is a sash with eight panes. The flanking three-bay stables each have a central door. Piended (hipped) entrances to the loft break the wallhead in the north and south gables. The roof is covered in slate and is piended. The interior contains no surviving stable fittings. The range was likely intended for farm horses and carts.
