Description
Nelson's Monument, located in Cluny Hills, Forres, was designed by Charles Stewart in 1806 and restored after a fire by John Forrest in 1900. This tall octagonal tower stands approximately 70 feet high and features harled walls with ashlar margins. It has simple Gothic windows and a door, along with a corbelled and crenellated parapet, spout gargoyles, and a flagstaff. Four plaques on the monument commemorate the Battle of The Nile (1798), the Battle of Copenhagen (1801), the Battle of Trafalgar (1805), and note that the tower was built through public subscription.
