Description
30 and 32 High Street in Forres are two-storey and attic houses built in 1777 and 1778. The buildings have been significantly altered for shop use. The gable end faces the street and features a three-bay shopfront along with two first-floor windows. The gable is made of coursed rubble with polished ashlar dressings, while the rest of the structure is constructed from rubble. The first-floor windows on the gable have raised and moulded margins, as does the blocked central door, all adorned with fluted keystones. The windows have two-pane glazing. The south gable has crowsteps, and the north gable has a coped end stack with a date stone. The skewputts are elaborately designed with carved nautilus shell detailing, and the roof is covered with slate, although there is an unfortunate large box dormer.
