Description

Ross and Macbeth, 1901-3. Decorated Gothic. Coursed tooled

rubble with ashlar dressings. Large gable to High Street with

triple entrances divided by cluster colonnettes with stiff

leaf capitals. Triple geometric traceried windows above and

gable parapet with heavy quatrefoil decoration. To left,

bowed wing housing gallery stairs lit by cusped lancet

windows; to right, 3-stage tower with battered base, lancets,

corbelled angle turrets to upper stage with crenellated

parapet, surmounted by facetted spire with lucarnes at base.

5-bay body of church with paired, cusped windows to ground

and gallery; steeply pitched slate roof.

INTERIOR: U-plan gallery with cusped Gothic panelling to

front, supported by 6 cluster cast-iron columns with bulbous

florid capitals. Gothic panelled pulpit and organ case.

Hammer beam type roof, boarded and panelled. Chequered

glazing to windows.

Church hall to rear.
