Description

Hamilton South Church, located on Mill Road, was built in 1903 and features a rectangular plan in a simple Gothic style. The exterior is constructed of stugged and snecked rubble with ashlar dressings and a slate roof. Notable elements include a base course at the front gable, a chamfered wallhead course, battered buttresses, and lancet windows with chamfered jambs. The church has coped skews and cast-iron rainwater goods with decorative hoppers.

The front gable showcases a central two-leaf pointed door framed by a stop-chamfered doorcase and hoodmould, flanked by small square-headed windows with segmentally chamfered lintels. Above, there is a stepped three-light gallery window with a hoodmould, and the gable is shouldered with a date panel on the left, diagonal buttresses, and a cross-finial.

On the left return elevation, there are six lancet windows and five buttresses. The right return elevation features a paired stair window to the left and a gabled bellcote rising through the wallhead, which contains a pointed bell chamber and bell, along with five windows and buttresses to the right.

At the rear gables, there is a three-light window, and a modern church hall is advanced at the ground floor.

Inside, the church features plain wrought-iron boundary railings, decorative cast-iron gatepiers, and wrought-iron gates at the front gable.
