Description
The adjoining hall and offices of Hamilton Baptist Church, dated 1908, is a rectangular-plan church featuring a polygonal apse, with the hall and offices located at the rear. The building is constructed of snecked bull-faced red sandstone rubble, with red brick used for the offices and the rear of the hall, and red ashlar dressings. It has a slate roof adorned with terracotta ridge tiles and an octagonal fleche topped with a finialled spirelet. The church has buttressed aisles and a north gable, with a moulded string course at the gallery level and bracketed eaves. The gables feature kneelers at the shoulders and saddleback-coped skews. The windows include 3-light designs with 4-centred arch heads at the ground floor, square-headed and traceried windows at the gallery level, and pointed traceried windows at the gables, all with simple Art Nouveau pattern leaded glazing.
On the north gable, there is a central 2-leaf door with an astragalled fanlight, set within a multiple-moulded 4-centred arch doorpiece embellished with fleurons. A hoodmould extends over small windows on either side. Above, a 5-light pointed window at the gallery level has jambs that are elongated to finials rising through the skews, and the gable is crenellated at the shoulders with a Celtic cross finial.
The west elevation features the church on the left, with two bays at the center that have windows at both ground and gallery levels. A gabled bay on the left includes a ground floor door, while a slightly advanced gable on the right has windows at both levels. The hall is located on the right, displaying two bipartite windows at the ground floor and a 5-light pointed window above, along with an entrance porch and a corridor linking to the church on the left.
The east elevation mirrors the west elevation in design but has most window divisions left in block. The offices and hall are positioned to the left. The interior has not been seen.
