5 Imperial Cottages, Imperial Distillery, Carron

A group of five pairs of cottages, known as Imperial Cottages, built around 1900 by Charles Doig. They face south and were constructed to provide housing for workers at the nearby Imperial Distillery, which was established in 1897. The cottages appear on the Ordnance Survey map of 1903.

The cottages are a terrace of ten properties with single-storey and attic design, each pair having two bays. Each pair has a secondary entrance located in the outer bay. The construction is of pinned mixed rubble, with dressed stone details. The roofs are piended, sloping gently over the side elevations. The main entrance to each pair is centrally placed on the return walls, breaking through the wallhead beneath a small gable featuring a double-leaf plank door. The windows are four-pane sash windows. Dormers, possibly added slightly later, are present at the front and back. Coped chimney stacks rise through the roof, flanking a short ridge. The cottages have slate roofs with projecting eaves.
