3 Imperial Cottages, Imperial Distillery, Carron

These are a group of five pairs of single-storey and attic cottages, dating to circa 1900 and designed by Charles Doig. They face south and were built to provide housing for workers at the Imperial Distillery, which was established in 1897. The cottages appear on the Ordnance Survey map of 1903.

The cottages are arranged as a terrace of ten dwellings, numbered 1 to 10 and known as Imperial Cottages, situated by Carron Bridge. They are constructed from pinned mixed rubble with dressed ashlar details. The roofs are piended, with a low sweep over the side elevations. The main entrance to each pair is centrally positioned within the return walls, breaking the wallhead beneath a gablet and featuring a double-leaf plank door. Dormers, likely added slightly later, are present at the front and rear. The cottages have four-pane glazing. Chimneys with coping rise through the roof, flanking a short ridge, and are situated north and south. The roofs are slate with projecting eaves.
