2 Imperial Cottages, Imperial Distillery, Carron

These are a group of five pairs of single-storey and attic cottages, dating from around 1900 and designed by Charles Doig. They face south and were constructed to house workers at the Imperial Distillery, which was established in 1897. The cottages appear on the Ordnance Survey map of 1903.

The buildings are arranged as a terrace, with secondary entrances in the outer bays of each pair. They are constructed of pinned mixed rubble with tooled ashlar dressings. The roofs are piended, sloping gently over the side elevations. The main entrance to each pair is centrally located within the return walls, breaking the wallhead beneath a gablet and featuring a double-leaf plank door. The windows are 4-pane sash windows. Dormers, likely added slightly later, are present at the front and rear. Two coped stacks rise through the roof, positioned on the north and south sides, flanking a short ridge. The roofs are slate with projecting eaves. Additional information is held at the Moray District Record Office.
