8 Imperial Cottages, Imperial Distillery, Carron

A terrace of eight single-storey and attic cottages, dating to circa 1900 and built by Charles Doig, situated facing south. The cottages are arranged in five pairs, each pair sharing a secondary entrance in the outer bay. The construction is of pinned mixed rubble with tooled ashlar dressings. The roofs are piended, with a low sweep over the side elevations. The main entrance to each pair is centrally located on the return walls, breaking the wallhead under a gablet, and features a double-leaf plank door. The windows are four-pane sash windows. Paired dormers, likely added slightly later, are positioned at the front and back. Coped stacks rise through the roof, flanking a short ridge. Slate roofs feature projecting eaves.

The cottages were built to house workers at the Imperial Distillery, which was established in 1897. They appear on the 1903 Ordnance Survey map. The statutory address is By Carron Bridge, Nos 1-10 (including Nos) Imperial Cottages. Further details are held at the Moray District Record Office.
