1 Imperial Cottages, Imperial Distillery, Carron

A terrace of five pairs of single-storey and attic cottages, dated circa 1900 and designed by Charles Doig, built to house workers at the Imperial Distillery, which was established in 1897. The cottages face south and have secondary entrances in their outer bays. They are constructed of pinned mixed rubble with tooled ashlar dressings. The roofs are piended, sweeping low over the side elevations, with the main entrance positioned in the centre of the return walls, breaking the wallhead under a gablet featuring a double-leaf plank door. The windows have four panes of glazing, and possibly slightly later paired dormers are located at the front and back. Centre coped stacks rise through the roof, flanking the short ridge to the north and south. Slate roofs have projecting eaves. The cottages appear on the 1903 Ordnance Survey map.
