10 Imperial Cottages, Imperial Cottages, Carron

These are a group of ten cottages, built around 1900 by Charles Doig, facing south. They form a terrace of five pairs of single-storey and attic cottages, each with two bays. Each pair has a secondary entrance in the outer bay. The walls are constructed of pinned mixed rubble, with dressed ashlar stonework. The roofs are piended, with a gentle slope down the side elevations. The main entrance for each pair is centrally positioned within the return walls, breaking through the wallhead with a gablet and a double-leaf plank door. The windows are fitted with four-pane glazing. Dormer windows, possibly added slightly later, are located at the front and back. Central coped chimney stacks rise through the roof, flanking the short ridge on both the north and south sides. The roofs are slate covered, with projecting eaves.

The cottages were built to house workers at the Imperial Distillery, which was established in 1897. They are shown on the Ordnance Survey map of 1903. Further information is held at the Moray District Record Office.
