Description
A group of seven cottages, dating circa 1900, designed by Charles Doig, forms a south-facing terrace. The terrace comprises five pairs of single-storey and attic, two-bay cottages, with secondary entrances located in the outer bays of each pair. The construction utilises pinned mixed rubble with tooled ashlar dressings. The roofs are piended, sweeping low over the side elevations. The main entrance is centrally positioned within the return walls, breaking the wallhead beneath a gablet containing a double-leaf plank door. There is four-pane glazing to the windows, and possibly slightly later paired dormers are found at the front and rear. Centre coped stacks rise through the roof, both north and south, flanking the short ridge. The cottages have slate roofs with projecting eaves.
These cottages were built to house workers at the Imperial Distillery, which was established in 1897. They appear on the Ordnance Survey map of 1903. Statutory address is BY CARRON BRIDGE, NOS 1-10 (INCLUDING NOS) IMPERIAL COTTAGES. Further details can be found at Moray District Record Office.
