Description
The Red Lion Hotel, located at 2-6 Tolbooth Street in Forres, dates back to 1838. It was originally three separate two-storey houses from the later 18th century, one of which has a gable end facing Tolbooth Street. These houses were later connected by a five-bay facade added in 1838, which features additional windows on the ground floor. The building is rendered with painted margins and has a shaped gable on the wide northern bay, which includes a date stone and a small corbelled bartizan at its base. There is a large two-light round arched window beneath a hoodmould, and two gablet dormers from the earlier building. The structure has end stacks and a slate roof.
