Description

7 and 9 Tolbooth Street in Forres is a building designed by Thomas MacKenzie in 1847, with alterations made by A and W Reid in 1893. The structure is constructed from tooled ashlar with polished ashlar dressings. It is a two-storey building featuring a seven-bay range, with a central round-arched pend. The bays are divided by pilasters on each floor, which are channelled towards the centre and outer bay. The ground floor includes cast-iron arcaded shopfronts from 1893, except for No 11, which has a modern facade. The first floor has round-headed pilastered tripartite windows with bracketed cills, and a bipartite window in the centre bay. The centre and outer bays are topped with pediments, and the building is finished with a cornice and a slate roof.
