Description
Blucairn and Sundial is an asymmetrical three-storey and attic gabled house built by F W Troup in London between 1906 and 1907. The building features a mix of rubble, tooled rubble, and tooled ashlar dressings, with some slate hanging. The entrance is located in the northeast re-entrant angle. There is a canted ground floor window on the north side and a substantial projecting canted window with a facetted slated roof on the northwest. The west-facing gable has a small facetted and slated oriel window on the second floor.
A painted weatherboarded sun room with some later alterations is present, along with a first-floor room above in the southwest re-entrant angle, which has modern multi-pane glazing. The roof is slate with overhanging eaves, featuring a coped clustered ridge stack at the north and a tall coped wallhead stack at the south. To the east, there is a narrow service court flanked by a garage range, which includes some weatherboarded walling.
Inside, all original chimney pieces have been removed. The ceilings have simple cornices, and the staircase features shaped flat balusters with attenuated finials. There are panelled doors, including some original boarded cupboard doors with long hinges.
In the garden, there is a late 17th or early 18th century pedestal sundial with a square head, which has been re-sited from elsewhere in the garden.
