Woolmill Cottage, Knockando

Woolmill Cottage is a simple, traditional, single-storey, three-bay cottage built in the earlier 19th century. It has a rectangular plan and is symmetrically designed, located to the south of a nearby mill. Attached to the southeast gable is a small, roofless square-plan dairy or larder. The cottage features low wallheads with openings positioned close to the eaves. The exterior shows harling in some areas, while coursed random rubble with ladder pinnings is visible elsewhere. The roof is pitched and covered with corrugated asbestos.

The principal northeast elevation has a central doorway flanked by windows on both the far left and far right. The dairy or larder is located at the left gable and has a separate doorway. The rear southwest elevation has an off-centre doorway with flanking windows. The cottage is topped with raised coped skews and has coped gable apex stacks, with a clay can on the southeast side and evidence of thackstanes. The doors are two-leaf timber boarded, and the windows are timber with four panes and multi-paned sash and case designs.

Inside, there is a small hallway from the front door, with doorways leading to the principal gable end rooms and a central narrow room that runs to the rear. The interior features timber six-panelled fielded doors, a small cast-iron range, and a cast-iron register grate in the respective principal rooms, along with timber-lined walls.
