Description
190, 192, and 194 High Street in Dalkeith is a later 19th-century, three-storey, four-bay terraced tenement featuring shops on the ground floor. The west elevation is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone rubble, with stugged ashlar dressings. It has stop-chamfered lintels above all margins on the west side and includes a base course and a band course, which currently displays shop signs.
On the west (High Street) elevation, the door for No. 194 is located centrally between the bays. The entrance to the tenement at No. 192 is situated in the bay to the right of the centre, while the door for No. 190 is positioned between two bays to the right, with both doors featuring 2-pane fanlights. The windows are regularly arranged, with taller windows on the first floor and smaller ones on the second floor.
The east elevation has four irregularly arranged windows and includes a modern flat-roofed addition on the right side. The north elevation is attached to Nos 196 and 198 High Street, while the south elevation is adjoined to Nos 186 and 188 High Street.
The building features sash and case windows with various glazing patterns, along with plate glass shop windows. The roof is covered with grey slates, and the building has sawtooth coped skews and skewputts.
