Free Church Manse, Kennedy Avenue, Dornoch

The Free Church Manse, designed by architect James Raeburn around 1843, is a two-storey, three-bay house located on Kennedy Avenue in Dornoch. The front features a central door that is obscured by a later square projecting porch. The building is constructed of coursed tooled rubble, with rubble on the flanks and rear, and has ashlar dressings. It displays wide angle pilasters and tall windows on the ground floor, along with a cill band at the first floor. The central first-floor window is adorned with moulded architraves, and the house has 12-pane glazing. A moulded eaves cornice and a blocking course with rounded end dies complete the roofline.

At the rear, there is a shallow projecting wing and a later two-storey, two-bay addition. The roof is shallow piended and covered with slate, featuring paired corniced ridge stacks with original square cans.

The property is enclosed by a low coped retaining wall topped with cast-iron spearhead railings. The entrance is marked by square tooled ashlar end and gate piers, which have pyramidal caps and ball finials, alongside a rubble garden wall.
