Description

45 Inverleith Gardens in Edinburgh is a mid-Victorian building designed by Robert R and J P Raeburn in 1882, showcasing a Freestyle architectural style. The structure is two stories high with an attic and features a three-bay front with raised quoins, cornices on the first floor, and a cill string course.

The central entrance is a round-arched doorpiece with keyblocking, flanked by Corinthianesque shafts and a fanlight, all set within panelled pilasters and consoles that support a balustraded apron above. To the right, there is a two-storey, three-light bay with pilaster mullions and stilted segmental arches on the ground floor, and slim shafts with stilted shouldered lintels on the first floor. The roof is steeply pitched and features a semi-hexagonal spire.

To the left, there is a shallow rectangular tripartite bay that diminishes to a bipartite configuration on the first floor, mirroring the treatment of the canted bay but with a fluted first-floor apron band and a platformed roof. The piended roof has a bell cast and includes two arched dormers in the centre and left-hand bays.

The rear (south) elevation is simpler, with a two-storey, three-light canted bay to the left that has a French window and two additional windows, one of which has been enlarged on the ground floor. There is one bipartite segmentally arched dormer and a window in the gables with twin corniced stacks. Additionally, there is a one-storey piended wing to the east with an arched bipartite window facing north.
