Description

The building known as the Manse, located at 43 Inverleith Gardens in Edinburgh, was designed by Hardy and Wright in 1882 and showcases Free Gothic architectural style. It is a two-storey structure with an attic, constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings.

The front facade features three bays, with a central door that has a semicircular fanlight and a gabled porch supported by a scissor roof truss. The outer ground floor bays include tripartite windows with stone mullions, while the right side has a bipartite window topped with a piended dormerhead. The gable features a Gothic bipartite window that is corbelled from the first floor, with the date displayed in panels above the window heads. There are also two small gablet dormers and one window with a piended outshot that is set well back to the west.

On the south (rear) elevation, there is a prominent central two-storey semicircular bow with three windows and two small gablet dormers. The outer bays have a ground floor tripartite window to the right and bipartite windows on the first floor. The roof is piended and slated, featuring a tiled crest and fish scale slating at the piended front dormerhead. The building is topped with tall rubble stacks that have ashlar dressings and are finished with set-off and moulded copes.
