Description

The Deanery, located on Castle Street in Dornoch, dates from around 1840 and is a two-storey house with an attic, featuring three bays. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings. It has panelled pilasters at the ground and first floors at the outer angles and in the centre bay, with the storeys separated by a simple dentilled cornice. The centre bay has an open pediment and is topped with an anthemion finial. There is a central door with a window above, which has a shell pediment that rises into the open pediment. The eaves cornice is moulded, and there is a blocking course with pyramidal end finials. The house includes two canted dormers and one small centre piended dormer. The ground floor windows retain their original lying-pane glazing, while the other windows are fitted with four-pane sashes. The ends of the building feature corniced stacks and a slate roof.

There is a small single-storey extension on the ground floor to the west, which continues the ground floor cornice detail and has an end finial similar to that at the wallhead. A low coped rubble retaining wall with cast-iron spearhead railings surrounds the property. Additionally, there is a modern box dormer at the rear.
