Holly Lodge Hotel, Strathpeffer

The Holly Lodge Hotel is an asymmetrical, two-storey, L-shaped building dating from around 1860. A square Italianate tower rises to three storeys within the re-entrant angle, featuring an entrance porch at its base. The building is constructed from coursed grey rubble with contrasting polished sandstone dressings. The south front has paired round-headed windows on the second floor of the tower and at the first floor elsewhere. A four-light rectangular bay window is situated within the wide west gable, and a canted bay window is found on the ground floor of the east elevation. Both bay windows have stilted pilastered jambs and lead roofs. A later projecting sun parlour has been added to the left of the main entrance, accompanied by a later 19th-century ornate cast-iron balcony balustrade above. The west elevation consists of three bays with gable dormer heads, with the centre gable being wider and topped with an apex stack. The windows are predominantly two-pane designs. Additional features include deep, projecting, bracketed, barge-boarded eaves, anthemion cast-iron acroteria in the gables, corniced end stacks with original square chimney cans, and a shallow-pitched slate roof.
