Strathpeffer Hotel, Strathpeffer

The Strathpeffer Hotel is an early 19th-century building with later 19th-century additions and alterations. It is three storeys high and has a wide, irregular six-bay south-facing facade. The front is largely harled, with contrasting painted margins and some ashlar dressings. Three bays near the centre feature the main entrance and, above, a pedimented window on the second storey flanked by later 19th-century oriels. A wide projecting bay extends to the right (east), featuring a tall, ashlar canted bay window with a pediment and decorative scroll detailing framing a saltire motif. A similar polygonal bay, rising four storeys and topped with a facetted piended roof, is found on the extreme left (west) wing. Projecting outer bays are linked at first floor level by a decorative cast-iron balcony supported by paired turned wooden columns. The windows are mostly double-glazed with multi-pane upper sashes. Margined paired centre ridge stacks and corniced wallhead stacks are present, along with slate roofs.
