Description
Timaru House Hotel is a late 19th-century house of symmetrical design, three bays wide. It is a two-storey building constructed of bullfaced rubble with contrasting ashlar dressings. The central recessed glazed entrance is flanked by projecting rectangular bay windows with pilasters, these being linked by a columned arcade topped with a decorative panelled timber parapet. An arcaded balcony, with panelled detailing, extends across the entire front facade. The gables are panelled, featuring shield ornamentation in the outer bays. The building is characterised by bracketted eaves, finials and ornate barge boards to the end gables. Round-headed windows are located in the first floor of the end gables, supported by cill and string courses below. The windows are fitted with two panes of glazing. A corniced end stack is present, along with a slate roof. A long, single-storey wing extends to the rear. The building was formerly known as Ardgour. The statutory address is Strathpeffer Timaru.
