Description
Eaglestone House is a cottage ornée dating from around 1860. It is a single-storey building with an attic, featuring a symmetrical, wide three-bay south-facing frontage. The centre bay projects forward, containing the main entrance, and the end gables are also bowed. The construction is of bull-faced rubble with contrasting, tooled ashlar dressings and decorative band courses. The slate roof is piended over the front bay and curves at the end gables, projecting over deep, white-painted soffits supported by cast-iron columns to form a continuous verandah. There are six dormers, each with bargeboard detailing, gablets, and decorative cast-iron finials. The windows have four panes of glass, and corniced stacks are present. A rear wing has been raised and extended to the northwest. Eaglestone House is depicted on the first edition Ordnance Survey map of 1876. The Eagle Stone, a symbolic stone, is located in a field to the southeast of the house.
