Description
This is an L-shaped range of buildings constructed in 1907-8 by W L Carruthers, originally comprising a stable, laundry, and garage. The south-facing wing was initially a laundry, and the west-facing wing is single storey with an attic. The walls are harled (rough cast) with red sandstone ashlar dressings. The 3-bay cottage section and the former laundry cottage have windows divided into two lights. Five bargeboarded dormers light the attic space. The roof is slate. The building represents an interesting example of early private garaging arrangements. Original plans indicate a stable, carriage house, and motor house positioned alongside the cottage and laundry accommodation. The former laundry has since been converted into a dwelling. Plans dated December 1907 are held at the National Monuments Record of Scotland.
