Description
Glenfinnan Station, built between 1900 and 1901, is a single-storey, symmetrical three-bay station building that includes a ticket office and waiting room. The exterior is harled with contrasting painted margins. The north front, which faces the platform and railway, features a segmental-headed recess with flanking canted bay windows. The outer gabled walls, which are partially glazed, extend forward to support a projecting roof that creates a continuous verandah in front of the building and platform. There is a secondary entrance in the centre of the east gable, which has multi-pane glazing, and the building includes end stacks and a piended slate roof with deep eaves. The interior operates as the Glenfinnan Station Museum.
Adjacent to the station is a signal box built in 1901. This two-storey, rectangular-plan structure is horizontally weatherboarded and has a piended roof. It features a glazed locking room with timber astragalled windows that have curved framing at the top. Decorative brackets are present at the eaves, and there is a timber forestair providing access to the signal cabin, which contains levers and a locking frame. The signal box has a slate roof and cast-iron rainwater goods.
